Pre-operative Assessment
Before you undergo a procedure at the CIBO clinic, we take every measure to ensure you’re ready for it – medically, physically, emotionally and psychologically. It’s a big step, and we feel we haven’t done our job unless you’re fully prepared.
In the time leading up to your procedure, you will go through the following assessments:
Medical work-up
The staff internist will conduct a thorough examination and review your medical history, assess any co-morbidities (the medical side effects of your weight) and schedule any necessary tests including ECG, blood tests, sleep studies, nuclear tests, echo cardiogram and chest x-ray. The internist will estimate the risk of complications, and ensure you are in optimal medical condition to undergo the procedure.
Psychological work-up
Our staff psychotherapist will conduct a psychological review to help you with any emotional hurdles you may be facing that are a result of your weight – or are at the core of your weight problem. She will review your behavioural questionnaire and evaluate you further to determine if you are a suitable candidate for a weight loss procedure.
Pre-Operative Seminar
You and your support person will attend a seminar that will prepare you for the procedure and give you all the knowledge you need to get through the first six weeks after the procedure with confidence.
You will be taken through every step of the procedure, starting from when you arrive at the clinic to the time you are discharged. The seminar includes detailed information about discharge instructions, recovery stages, pre-operative and post-operative diet and more. You’ll have a chance to ask questions, talk to patients who have already undergone the procedure, get comfortable with the process, and increase your level of success.
