Pre-Op Assessment for Lap-Band Surgery

At CIBO Clinic, you can achieve the results you want when you are prepared, educated and supported every step of the way in your weight loss journey.

We take every measure necessary to ensure you’re ready for Lap-Band surgery – medically, physically, emotionally and psychologically. We know it’s a big step, and we feel we haven’t done our job unless you're fully prepared. Here are the steps you will take with us before you undergo Lap-Band surgery.

Step 1: Meet with CIBO's Director of Patient Services

Once you have decided to explore Lap-Band surgery and the CIBO Clinic approach, you will meet with our Director of Patient Services.  Nisrine, a successful Lap-Band patient herself for over 10 years, will help to answer all your questions, direct you to accurate, credible resources, and ensure that your individual needs are met.

Step 2: Complete a Medical Assessment and Meet Your Surgeon

At CIBO Clinic, we want to ensure that you are in optimal medical condition to undergo the Lap-Band surgery. During our medical assessment, we’ll conduct a thorough review of your medical history.  We will assess other possible health issues (or co-morbidities) associated or impacted by your weight, such as type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, arthritis, and hypertension.

If your medical history indicates the need for further testing, we’ll order them and our Internist will evaluate your test results.  Your final step in the medical assessment is to meet your surgeon so that he can answer any remaining questions that you may have.

Step 3: Meet with our Psychologist

We have learned that achieving sustainable, long-term weight loss requires a comprehensive approach that includes psychological support for our patients before and after Lap-Band surgery.

That’s why, during the pre-op assessment phase, we schedule a one-on-one, hour-long meeting with our staff psychologist.  Jennifer Walsh, will review your behavioural questionnaire with you and evaluate your readiness for Lap-Band surgery.  In a relaxed and private environment, she’ll discuss with you, any emotional hurdles you may be facing as a result of your weight – or any issues that may be at the core of your weight problem.

Step 4: Meet with our Nutritionist

Another important step in our pre-op assessment is meeting with our nutritionist.  Jill Hillhouse will review your nutrition questionnaire with you and answer any questions you might have about nutrition and weight loss.  Together you will examine and talk about your eating habits and how they will change after Lap-Band surgery.  Jill will also take time to educate you on the Lap-Band Pre-Op diet and discuss with you Post-Op dietary instructions, until you reach optimum restriction, so that you can achieve your personal weight loss goals.
